Vino Events this week: It looks like we are in for a wet and gusty evening here in Portland AKA a Bomb Cyclone. I know this because The Weather Channel is going to be my main source of news until late 2029. I feel like being well informed about the forecast is healthier than paying attention to our incoming administration.

Tomorrow night (11/20) we will have Gabriel Jagle, winemaker from Scenic Valley Vineyards, here in the shop pouring through some of his wines. This is a free tasting 5 – 7. This is what he’s pouring:

Pinot Gris 2022 Willamette Valley $19

Chardonnay 2023 Willamette Valley $21

Gruner Veltliner 2023 Willamette Valley $21

Pinot Noir 2022 Willamette Valley $21

Pinot Noir “Wild Hare” 2021 Willamette Valley $29

Emily Heins from Handcrafted will be in the shop talking to you about the wines being poured for the flight. It’s going to be hard to top the Rhone and Loire Valley flights she’s put together, but I have faith. Instead of picking one country or region, we picked out 8 wines from her book to feature as “holiday picks.” We will be pouring 4 – 8pm. Here’s the lineup:

Grenelle Saumur Brut Rose, Loire Valley $24 Brut Rosé Corail is a pure Cabernet Franc with a very light pink color and a delicate nose that intermingles red fruit aromas with floral notes.

Carrel & Senger Jongieux Gamay 2022, Savoie $21 Its bright cherry aroma at perfect ripeness is set against a fresh profile, where light aging preserves all the fruitiness.

Tre Monti Campo di Mezzo 2022, Romagna $14 Bright red-ruby. Aromas of violet and gun-powder have lovely lift and precision. Very juicy and firm-edged but fresh, with a bright floral note and harmonious zingy acidity on the long nicely delineated finish.

Boedecker “Compassion and Grace” Pinot Noir 2018, Willamette Valley $22Another great wine/value from the Boedeckers. Cherries, raspberries and red fruits with plenty of body.

Paul Autard Côtes du Rhône 2022 $20 Aromas of raspberry fruit leather, cherry, herbs de Provence, smoke and black plum. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Bonus

Prinz Salm Dry Riesling 2022, $24 Saar Germany displays fragrant notes of green apples, pears and passion fruit. A perfectly balanced acidity brings a lively crispness to this dry Riesling.

Granville Pinot Noir “Basalte” 2022, Willamette Valley $32 Deep red fruits and spice lead to a more generous style of Oregon pinot.

Daniele Conterno Barolo 2019 $54 Fantastic Barolo! Soft orange notes, Rich and complex on the nose with floral hints. Smooth structured tannins with a long lingering finish.

The 2023 Buckman Pinot Noir is in the bottle and we are just waiting on labels to arrive. The Boedecker’s have generously volunteered to deliver it Friday if labels arrive in time. If that’s the case, I’ll open a few bottles as the bonus bonus bonus pour that will be free!

My friend Brian Martin from Prufrock will be here in the shop next Wednesday the 27th from 3 – 6 pouring some dynamite wines that will be perfect for your Thanksgiving table. We thought this would be a great way to find any last-minute wines and be able to taste before purchasing……and it’s free!

Brazilier Brut Blanc NV $24

Handwerk Gruner Veltliner, Austria 2023 1L $20

Villargeau Sauvignon Blanc Coteaux Giennois, Loire Valley 2023 $20

Weninger Rose of Blaufrankish, Hungary 2023 $21

Tim Malone Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley 2022 $17

Anne-Sophie Dubois, Beaujolais (gamay) Fleurie $34

Bura Plavac, Hungary 2022 $21

We will be open this coming Monday 11 – 7 and closed Thanksgiving day and Friday.

This email is way too long, but email me if you’re interested in a value case and I’ll let you what I have in mind.
